RMA was founded by Ryan McCaffrey and is based in Boston, MA the Bay Area, CA. Prior to establishing the studio, Ryan apprenticed under Pritzker Prize-winning architect Wang Shu at Amateur Architecture Studio in Hangzhou, China (2013- 2019).
Alongside practice, he is a faculty member at RISD Architecture (profile). His research focuses on architectural regionalism, natural building materials, and building energy performance.
Ryan is a registered architect in Massachusetts. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and is certified by the National Council of Architectural Review Boards. He studied at the China Academy of Art (M.Arch II), Rhode Island School of Design (B.Arch), and McGill University.
