Category: New Construction
Type: Urban Waterfront, Landscape
Location: Shanghai, China
Status: Completed (with Atelier Z+)
This urban reconstruction project rehabilitated a derelict, 5-kilometer northern shore of the Yangpu River in downtown Shanghai. By focusing on the site’s industrial heritage, we reconstituted important building footprints as sunken gardens for seating and the cultivation of local plant species. Due to its scale and context, this project negotiates complex urban planning restrictions as the basis for architectural expression.
